“This is fucking delightful.”

Equal parts salty language and gleeful joy, this is the two-word manifesto for my ethos on life. Rad ideas, good things happening in the world, creative weirdos bravely doing their own thing, I’m an open book and exhilaration is written across all of the pages. There is no playing it cool when unconstrained enthusiasm is your default mode. Below are a few things I’ve done when I wasn’t on the clock for an agency or client that were a fucking delight.

It began with an offhanded mention of Aaron Draplin by Creative Director Libby Delana as I was interviewing at Mechanica. “Huh, I met in a few years ago while doing some on-camera stuff for DIY Network,” I said. “He’s even better in person. He like a good energy battery and he gives the kind of hug that makes you feel better about yourself as a human being.” That little jog down memory lane sparked an idea that, against all odds, culminated with Draplin doing a special event that brought my world (design) into my husband’s world (cars) at our shop, Arcs & Wrenches. It was ridiculously fun to see so many friends, colleagues, and clients in the same room - and every single one of us starstruck by Draplin, who was just as fucking delightful as I remembered.

Art Car Competition

Since we had everyone’s attention, we figured we might as well throw down the gauntlet: using BMW’s lineage of art cars as inspiration, show us the livery you’d design for one of the race cars we build for clients. Unsurprisingly, the competition was fierce, the design work was spectacular, and the creative juices were running flowing freely. As a copywriter, I had no dog in this fight. As a creative director, I was a kid in a candy store.
